CurseForge Announces A New API For The Community

Overwolf, the guild for creators of in-game games, has released a new tool for mod creators to use for games such as Minecraft, World of Warcraft and many more - the CurseForge API. This innovative tool lets creators distribute their mods directly to their fans. It also adds a whole load more possibilities for gaming communities to share content online.

This new system gives creators greater control over their work, particularly in relation to distribution through third-party companies of their work. Authors can now give permission to allow distribution outside of the CurseForge system, giving them control on how their content is distributed, and to protect the monetisation of their mods through the Authors Rewards Points system.

Modders are not the only ones that can benefit from the CurseForge API. The new terms and service agreement will open up a wide range of possibilities for users who use the system. This includes mod managers, discord bots and other gaming community projects, which will enable the system to grow and support gamers in new ways.

CurseForge API already approves 217 applications including 42 bots and 25 analytics tools. There are also nine general modding tools, as well as 11 modpack creation tools. As more users come to familiarize themselves with the platform, this roster will only grow exponentially. If you'd like to sign up to join the platform it is possible to do so here. All power to the players

What does this mean for players? Overwolf has listened to suggestions from players for a more efficient method to manage mods and developed an alternative version of the CurseForge application strictly for the players. The Windows standalone version is currently in alpha, and is built on Electron. It allows users to download and manage mods and add-ons from one place. The standalone client is currently compatible with World of Warcraft in its alpha version. Plans are underway to include support for Minecraft soon.

Linux users can download the beta version of this application for their operating systems. It currently supports World of Warcraft only. This version is still in its early stages therefore expect improvements and modifications to come in the near future. If you have questions or feedback, make sure to join the CurseForge Discord server and post your comments.

The app offers a variety of advantages for creators and players alike. It's simple to use and has a tidy layout that lets you keep all your mods and add-ons in one location. Mod authors receive 70% of the app's revenue this makes it a great method to help creators, regardless of whether you use the free version of the app or the paid-for ad-free version.
